It seems like Apple’s MacBook has been doing better than ever for the company. During its investors call announcing quarterly results, Apple revealed that revenue from Mac has hit an all-time record. Luca Maestri, CFO, Apple, said during the call, “Revenue was by far an all time record at $9 billion up 29% over last year and $1.6 billion above our previous record, in spite of supply constraints during the quarter.”
Maestri also revealed that Mac as a category had grown in “double digits” in each geographic segment. Further, it hit an all-time revenue record in the Americas and the rest of Asia Pacific, as well as September quarter records in Europe and Japan.
Apple is attributing this growth to the customer response it has received for its new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The company also said that it saw strong demand during the back to school season in the US.
On MacBook, Apple is set to revamp its line up by launching devices with its own silicon chip. Back in June during its WWDC event, Apple had made this revelation. Apple plans to ship the first Mac with Apple silicon by the end of the year and complete the transition in about two years. Till now, the MacBooks available in the market run on Intel-based chipsets.
The company had further clarified that it will continue to support and release new versions of macOS for Intel-based Macs for years to come. The transition to its own silicon-chip based Mac, however, doesn’t mean the end of the road for Intel-based laptops. Rumours are rife about the first Apple silicon Mac arriving sometime in mid-November.
