Laying all speculation and rumours to rest, Apple has sent out invites for its biggest event of the year. The special event — will be held online — on October 13 where Apple is set to unveil its much-awaited iPhone 12 series. The invite reads, “Hi, Speed. Please join us for a special event from Apple Park.” The event will begin at 10 am PDT (10 pm IST).
It is expected that the iPhone 12 lineup will officially be unveiled by Apple. Rumour mill has been in overdrive about what to expect from the event. Traditionally, Apple launches iPhones at an event in September but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Cupertino-based tech giant delayed the launch of iPhones.
Apple did hold an annual event in September where it unveiled two new Apple Watch models — Series 6 and Watch SE — along with two new iPad models.
But the ‘big’ one is this event where the iPhone 12 will finally arrive. It is expected that Apple will launch four iPhone models this year — a 5.4-inch iPhone 12, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max (rumoured names). The phones differentiating factor is expected to be the camera and not the display.
Apple has been putting an LCD display in one of the iPhones for the past two years, which turns out to be the more ‘affordable’ of the devices. However, this year it is expected that all four iPhones will boast of an OLED display.
The camera, however, is expected to be different. Two iPhones — iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max — are rumoured to have a dual camera setup where as the other two models will have a triple camera setup. The LiDar scanner which made its debut with the iPad Pro earlier this year is also expected to be a part of two of the iPhone 12 models.
