Personal data of 2 crore users of grocery app BigBasket has reportedly been leaked and is up for sale on the dark web for around Rs 30 lakh or 15 paisa per user. The leaked database includes full names, email IDs, password hashes (potentially hashed OTPs), pin, contact numbers (mobile + phone), full addresses, date of birth, location, and IP addresses of login among many others. According to Cyble, a firm that tracks data breaches, not just BigBasketseveral other popular apps and services are vulnerable to hacker attacks.
While these database leaks may not directly make you lose money, it certainly increases the risk of targeted phishing attacks, identity thefts, online harassment and even stalking.
