Huawei HarmonyOS coming to smartphones, confirms company

NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker Huawei launched various products at the company’s Developer Conference. Along with the product’s launches, the company CEO Richard Yu announced the HarmonyOS 2.0. The company said that the HarmonyOS 2.0 comes with changes to software bus, data management, and security. Huawei further added that the new adaptive UX of the framework will enable developers to quickly reach millions of new users and devices.
Huawei further added that with the new update, the HarmonyOS will become an open-source and developers will now be able to gain access to emulators, SDK packages and IDE tools. The company also said that the open source project is donated to the China Open Atomic Open Source Foundation and it will be launched in stages along with a mobile HarmonyOS beta release.
Huawei said that the beta release planned for Chinese developers will come by the end of 2020.
The HarmonyOS 2.0 beta is now available for smart TVs, smartwatches and the head units will be available for the developers from December 2020 SK, Documentation, Tool and Simulator will be available for smartphones. The company has also confirmed that the smartphones running on HarmonyOS can be expected by the end of this year.
Richard Yu, executive director and CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group said. “Huawei’s breakthrough in ecosystem development is a result of the strong support from global developers and partners. Huawei will fully open core technologies as well as software and hardware capabilities to developers, collaborating with them to drive further innovation of an all-scenario smart ecosystem.”
