huawei: Huawei may bring all-screen fingerprint unlock feature to future smartphones

Must read

Chinese technology major Huawei has filed a patent for all-screen fingerprint unlock technology that would require smartphone users to just tap anywhere on the display to unlock their phones, as per a report by Android Authority.
The patent for the technology has been filed in six international markets: China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea and the US. As per the report, Huawei has also disclosed the potential use-cases like the need for a fingerprint to unlock individual apps. This could be different from the traditional app lock-in that you may be able to just “theoretically unlock and launch the app in one go”, without having to tap first on the app icon and then on the fingerprint sensor on your phone, says the report.
Huawei also disclosed to Android Authority that with the help of this technology, smartphone users will be able to check the SMS app and respond to the text messages without having to unlock the phone first. But if the entire display can work as a fingerprint scanner, won’t this cause a drain on the smartphone battery? As per the report, users will be able to “activate sensors in a chosen area on the screen while deactivating the rest on the screen space” so as to conserve battery life.
It isn’t the first time that some company has decided to work on all-screen fingerprint technology. Vivo had used this technology in its Apex 2019 concept phone. Yet, it is still a patent now and the other details about Huawei’s work in this regard are not yet known.
