PS5: PlayStation 5 units outsold Xbox Series X and S units combined during launch week: Report

Must read

There were more Sony PlayStation 5 units sold than both the Xbox Series X and S units combined in the launch week of the next-generation consoles, as per the estimates by game sales tracker VGChartz. As per the estimates, Sony globally sold 1,483,910 PS5 consoles, while Microsoft sold 1,345,386 Xbox Series X/S consoles in the time period between November 8 and November 14, 2020.
This is despite the PS5 launching later than the next gen Xbox consoles. Microsoft launched the new Xbox consoles before Sony brought along the PS5 to the markets. The Xbox Series X and S consoles hit the markets globally on November 10, two days before Sony launched the PS5 in Australia, Japan, North America, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea on November 12 and then on November 19 for the rest of the world.
The report by VGChartz also adds that Sony also sold more PS5 in the markets of Australia, North America and New Zealand in the launch week than it did with the PS4. On the contrary, fewer PS5 units were sold in Japan, Singapore and South Korea during the launch week compared to the PS4.
The spot for the third best selling console was taken by Nintendo Switch that sold 722,176 units while the PlayStation 4 came in fourth with 116,301 units. Xbox One with 45,288 units and the Nintendo 3DS with 2,198 units stood at the fifth and the sixth spot respectively.
