Snapchat launches TikTok competitor called Spotlight with $1 million prize money

Must read

Snap has introduced a new TikTok-like feature called Spotlight. This feature as per the company will allow people to post their “most entertaining Snaps” and win some prize money. To lure content creators to Spotlight, Snap will be giving a chance to earn a share of more than $1 million that will be distributed to creators every day.
To earn money by posting engaging content, the Snaps submitted to Spotlight must follow the content guidelines and the user needs to be at least 16-year old.
The Snaps need to be vertical videos of up to 60 seconds with sound. “Still-image photos, horizontal Snaps, blurry Snaps, and text-only Snaps won’t show up in Spotlight,” it said. Content creators need to add a “#topic” on the ‘Send To’ page. Users will be able to post from their Camera Roll but there could be limits on how many you can post.
The company wants Spotlight to be the collection of the best Snaps of all time at one place. Having said that Snap has clarified that there is no place for sponsored or paid-for Snaps. Also, it is advising people not to attempt to sell or solicit products or services.
As far as the prize money is concerned, Snap decides who gets how much through its “proprietary formula, which takes into account various engagement metrics and other factors during each day.”
Snapchat Spotlight is now available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France. It will be available in other countries as well and we can expect it to come to India as well.
