One of the most popular games on Facebook–FarmVille–will no longer be available on Facebook starting 2021. FarmVille creator Zynga is shutting down the original web-based game by the end of this year. This is mainly because Facebook will not be supporting Flash games after December 31 and even Adobe is junking Flash completely.
“To make sure developers experience continued product support and a platform that complies with the highest security standards, we will end new game submissions for Web Games on Facebook by December 31, 2020 and Gameroom will be closed entirely on June 30, 2021. Both Gameroom and Web Games on Facebook host many Flash games that will be removed due to Flash end of life,” Facebook said in a statement earlier.
So, if you have farms or poultry to take care in the game the better do the maths quickly as you will no longer be able to make in-app purchases after November 17. However, you will be able to play the game till December 31. Zynga is working on a mobile version of FarmVille 3 that will be launched globally soon.
Having said that, the mobile version of FarmVille is yet to drive the craze which the original web version did. FarmVille on the web peaked at 30 million players and Facebook feeds used to be littered with all kinds of ‘farming requests’.
Meanwhile, for HTML5-based games there’s still hope for developers. Facebook mentioned earlier that, “for HTML5 games that currently surface on Gameroom, we are removing the Gameroom access point to the game after June 30, 2021 but will automatically point all players to the same game on Facebook.com so they can continue to play.”
