Chinese technology company Huami, which also happens to be an offshoot of Xiaomi, has reportedly partnered with electric carmaker Tesla for a smartwatch, claims a report by GizmoChina. The report also adds that the official reveal is imminent, and will take place in China tomorrow itself.
According to the report, a Huami-Tesla partnership means that the upcoming smartwatch gets some Tesla-exclusive features that let you control some aspects of the car directly from the smartwatch. This kind of technology inclusion is only going to jack up the price point of the smartwatch and make the smartwatch too pricey for the budget-conscious user. It is going to be a premium product for sure if the report is to be believed.
The report says that recently, Huami Amzfit GTR and Amazfit GTS smartwatches got an update that allows them to be used as car keys for the Xiaopeng P7/Xpeng P7 car, said to be China’s answer to the Tesla Model 3. The upcoming smartwatch may come with similar feature(s) for Tesla cars.
To add more weight to the speculations, the report adds that Huami CEO has been teasing about the launch event of the Huami Tesla watch on Weibo and from the teasers, it looks to be the Amazfit GTR watch.
There has been no official announcement yet regarding a Tesla-centric smart watch by either company.
