Tech billionaire Elon Musk is known to be quite a reader and lets his followers on Twitter know if he liked a certain book. The Tesla CEO, through his Twitter handle, keeps recommending books from time to time. A lot many books he has recommended fall in the science fiction genre, with the likes of the ones from writers like Isaac Asimov, Douglas Adams and Iain M Banks. However, there was one book that he stopped reading because he found it very dark. The title in question is ‘Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar’, a biography of Joseph Stalin, the former premier and dictator of the erstwhile USSR, by British historian Simon Sebag Montefiore.
Musk had mentioned in a tweet that he found the book “so dark” that he stopped reading it. In his own words: ““Stalin: Court of the Red Tsar” was one of the few books so dark I had to stop reading. If only they’d listened to Lenin’s last wish, much tragedy may have been averted.”

As per the Amazon webpage description of the biography, the book focusses on the life of Joseph Stalin as a Soviet dictator, Marxist leader and Russian tsar and reveals “the fear and betrayal, privilege and debauchery, family life and murderous cruelty” of the world of Stalin and his entourage.
Some of the books that have had a deep impact on Elon Musk have been from the high fantasy and science fiction genre, with titles like The Lord of the Rings, the Foundation trilogy and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Head over here for a list of 20 books that he liked and has recommended over time.
