What size TV is best for you: Depends on the room size
The two most common sizes in budget TVs are 32-inch and 40-inch. How do you pick which is more suitable for you? Easy. Just see the distance from the screen to where you intend to watch it for. If the distance is unto 3-5 feet, then 32-inch is perfect. If the distance is between 4-6 feet, then go for a 40-inch TV.
What resolution is good enough: HD, HD Ready or full HD
If you are looking for watching content from set-top box then HD, which offers resolution of 720 pixels is sufficient enough. However, we recommend to go for the full HD resolution that offers 1080 pixels. Most 32-inch TVs don’t offer full HD display panels but there are brands that have them in their product range.
What’s the difference between LED, LCD, OLED
For starters, OLED and QLED are high-end display panels, which you won’t find in budget or mid-range TVs. The panels found in most TVs in India are LCD-LED panels, which is a liquid crystal display LCD) that has light-emitting diode (LED) backlighting. LED panels help in making the TV slimmer and are also more energy-efficient.
OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode and as the name suggests it uses organic pixels that emit light when an electric current passes through. OLED TVs enhance the black levels as they automatically switch off areas of the screen that are black even when other parts are lit.
How many HDMI ports are sufficient
Ports are critical for connectivity and we recommend that a minimum of four HDMI ports should be there in the TV you buy. One port for a set-top box, one for a streaming device, one for a gaming console and one for a soundbar.
What operating system should you look for: Android, Tizen or WebOS
Most budget TVs are Android-based, so that’s the safest option to go for. Samsung runs on its own Tizen OS. Its home country rival LG too has its own WebOS for TVs.
Audio support: What should you look for
Find a TV that has at least 20W stereo speakers with support for codecs like Dolby and DTS.
Ensure TV is compatible with external speakers as at times budget TVs don’t offer a well-rounded audio experience
What kind of remote is ideal:
Remotes that have buttons and hotkeys for OTT apps and services is a must-have.
