Why this used iPhone XR is selling for over Rs 5 lakh

Must read

After Apple and Google kicked out Fortnite from their respective app stores, some sellers on eBay are trying to encash this opportunity and make money from Fortnite fans. Used iPhone XR with Fortnite installed is selling for over Rs 5 lakh and there are some bidders as well too. If you search ‘iPhone with Fortnite’ on eBay you will be surprised to see old iPhone models like iPhone SE, iPhone 8 and others selling anywhere in the range of up to Rs 1 lakh and some newer iPhones like the iPhone 11 Pro Max selling for over Rs 10 lakh. Of course, not all the sellers have managed to get bids.

As the fight between Epic Games and Apple is expected to escalate further, people think that there are Fortnite fans out there who will actually be willing to pay lakhs for an old iPhone with Fortnite on it.
Interestingly, there are some smart sellers as well who are simply trying to get rid of their old iPhones by selling it at a slightly higher price which can still be considered reasonable. For example, there are offers of iPhone XR with Fortnite for around Rs 40,000 as well. This too is a high price for an used iPhone XR but given the novelty factor of the Fortnite, some real fans may actually be willing to pay this much.
While the thought of making a quick buck may sound enterprising but the real deal is that there are many ways to play Fortnite. Not to forget, even if you buy an old iPhone with Fortnite on it, there are chances that you won’t be able to play because it would get OS updates. These updates may bar Fortnite. Also, many of these updates are bug fixes. So though fans may be fine with old-generation OS on their iPhones, they will require bug fixes for their phones to run properly.
The reason Fortnite got banned by both Google and Apple is because Epic Games started its own in-app payment gateway bypassing the default Apple and Google payment walls. Both Apple and Google make 30% from each transaction and bypassing this payment wall meant no money for them, which was in direct violation of Apple and Google’s app store guidelines.
